Join Northeast Animal Shelter on Sunday June 30th at Cinema Salem from 10am-12pm for a free screening of The Champions, a documentary film by Darcy Dennett. The Champions is an inspirational story about the pit bulls rescued from the fighting ring of former Atlanta Falcon’s star quarterback Michael Vick, and those who risked it all to save them. The uplifting documentary takes us on a journey about much more than just dogs — about prejudice, being misunderstood, the power of resilience, and the significance of the relationship we as humans have with animals. The Champions is a film that inspires compassion and compels social change, and is approved for all age groups. Cinema Salem is located at 1 East India Square Mall.
Following the screening there will be a Q+A lead by Northeast Animal Shelter’s Director of Behavior and the Founder of Handsome Dan’s Rescue.
Handsome Dan’s Rescue — named after Dan, one of the 22 dogs who came to Best Friends Animal Society from Michael Vick’s estate after he was arrested and charged in association with the operation of a dog fighting ring — helps with placement, care and the overall wellbeing of dogs in local shelters, rescues, and other facilities throughout the state of Rhode Island.
Free admission — suggested donation of $10 appreciated. Seating it limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
